“I shall not be so rude or so ungrateful as to argue with someone I have eaten and drunk with; and, furthermore, without rage or anger, who could ever bring a fight just for the sake of it?”

These words, addressed by the savvy Sancho in the Second Part of Don Quixote (chapter 14) to his friend, the knight’s squire of the Forest, portray a truth worthy of a real reasonable man. The Ancient Greeks were already aware of the extraordinary significance of eating and drinking together to, within the amicability of a shared banquet (literally, a symposium), discuss the most relevant matters, from politics to strategy or moral. The placid and open-minded conversation between people, away from anger or displeasure, is probably the most natural human act of all. It needs a few drinks to quarrel, remarks the shrewd Cervantes squire. Logos, or the word in Greek, is thus the peaceful tie of Humankind, the meeting point of all human beings.

Toledo, the Spanish province where the Museum headquarters is located, is the paradigm of understanding among cultures, the ideal spot to meet people, the metaphor that Word and Harmony can go hand in hand.

Right in the heart of La Mancha and Don Quixote, César Egido has built and kept at his own expense a beautiful Renaissance mansion of Castilian style devoted to universal debate. There it lies, from where all the routes and wanderings of Don Quixote depart, with the firm intention of accepting whatever adventures of communication crop up for a better world, global and more comprehensive. The Word Museum is the Trust permanent headquarters, wishing to become a useful instrument in this rather complex, multifarious society of the 21st century.

In the core of the Cervantes geographical layout – a little farther than a mere hour drive from Madrid -, the Word Museum offers all visitors the adequate environmental infrastructures to make its objectives come true.
